With a practical and conscious approach, a training session on organic sanitary management for controlling bee diseases was held, organized by the Prodesal team and Sociedad Apícola Verkruisen.

Last Wednesday, June 11th, a valuable beekeeping training workshop took place in the Romeral commune, bringing together local beekeepers committed to improving the sanitary management of their hives in line with the new Beekeeping Law No. 21,489, effective since 2022.
The session, organized by the Prodesal team of Romeral in collaboration with Sociedad Apícola Verkruisen, combined a theoretical presentation at the municipal library and a practical session at beekeeper Melanio Godoy’s apiary, where participants learned to diagnose and apply organic treatments with oxalic acid and propolis to control diseases such as varroasis, acariosis, nosemosis, and American foulbrood.
During the activity, the importance of regular monitoring of the sanitary and nutritional status of the bees was highlighted, as well as the use of products authorized by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the orderly recording of practices in a field notebook—key elements for professional and sustainable beekeeping.
“A well-nourished hive is a strong hive. And with properly applied organic treatments, it is possible to achieve excellent sanitary effectiveness at a lower cost than traditional treatments,” stated Juan Muñoz, technical director of Apícola Verkruisen, who praised the high participation and commitment shown by the beekeepers.
The session is part of the Apiculture with Conscience® model, which Apícola Verkruisen has promoted for over two decades, fostering the health of people and bees through responsible, clean, and sustainable practices.
Beekeeper Melanio Godoy expressed the following:
“What I value most is the practical part, working directly in the apiary and seeing how it is done. But the theoretical part was also important, because to be good beekeepers, we need to be methodical, organized, and professional.”

From Apícola Verkruisen, we want to extend a special thanks to the Prodesal team of the Municipality of Romeral for their commitment to strengthening local beekeeping and fostering spaces for high-quality technical training.
